How can I prolong the life of my brakes?

Here are some tips that will help you get the longest life out of your brakes:

  • Reduce traveling in stop and go traffic
  • Don't ride the brake
  • Cruise with traffic, don't tailgate
  • Empty your trunk of heavy things
  • Nix the road rage, this just leads to last minute braking

What is the best way to cover a scratch in my vehicles paint?

Assess the situation and figure out if you are comfortable doing a touch-up on your own. There are paint kits for this. If the scratch is thin and white, then is most likely hasn't gone through the clear coat and you are good to go. Make sure that it is warm enough in your work environment to wear short sleeves (60-85 degrees) so that they paint will adhere and dry properly. Make sure that you are out of the wind and sun with humidity under 60%. If doing this yourself makes you a little bit nervous, just bring it in to us and we can help!

Is it necessary to fix small chips or cracks in my windshield?

Yes! They may look small when they first occur but how do you think the big ones get there? They grow. Getting your windshield repaired as soon as a crack of chip appears is the best way to avoid a costly repair or replacement in the future. If you have just a basic scratch, this can be repaired without having to go to an auto glass repair shop and will normally just polish out.

What are the main maintenance services I should have done regularly?

While some parts of your vehicle should last many thousands of miles, others need fairly regular upkeep. It varies from car to car, but the services you should have done at least twice a year are part inspections, fluid checks, oil and filter changes, tire rotation to keep tire wear even, belt inspections, and brake inspections. Check your owner's manual or ask your technician about the right intervals for your car.

How often should I get an oil change?

This depends on your vehicle. In general, most vehicles need an oil change every 4,000 to 6,000 miles, though depending on the type of oil you get it may last longer. Synthetic oil, for instance, lasts longer than conventional.

How do I know if my tires need to be repaired or replaced?

It's easy to check your tires for problems. If you notice bulging or cracking, you should probably replace the tire. A slow leak is dangerous to drive on but can be fixed, so get it to a technician to look at and see if they can patch it up, or they may recommend getting a new one. Check the tread by looking for the wear bars or doing the penny test. Insert a penny upside down into the tread-if you can see the top of Lincoln's head, you need to replace the tire.

What does the check engine light mean?

The check engine light can mean a lot of different things, from something very minor like an open gas cap to a much more serious problem. It's best to go to a parts store or auto shop as soon as possible to get a free diagnostic test. Once you figure out what the problem is, you can decide what maintenance or repairs are necessary from there.

What are the advantages of synthetic oils?

When you go in for an oil change, you are often asked if you want synthetic or semi-synthetic oils for your change. Many people don't know the advantages of synthetic oils, though. Synthetic oils are great for drivers of high-performance vehicles or those who love cars that are durable and have a long life.

This type of oil has better low- and high-temperature viscosity performance at service temperature extremes. It also is resistant to oil sludge problems and has extended drain intervals, which means it benefits the environment because there is less oil waste. Check your owner manual to see if your vehicle will benefit from synthetic oil. If it isn't recommended, then don't use it in your vehicle because it can do more harm than good.

How frequently should I change my windshield wipers?

Windshield wipers are essential to your visibility in bad weather, so it's important to keep them fresh. Because of this, you should change your wipers twice a year-once in the spring and again in the fall. They should be replaced in the spring after harsh winter weather has put them through the wringer, scraping at snow and freezing rain. In the fall is also a great time to fix them because the rubber can dry up in the heat of the summer sun. In general, you should replace them every four to six months.
